The Filipino in Literature
October 2, 2007
What makes a literary work “Filipino” in nature? A lot of debates and discussions have been raised regarding the said topic, but shouldn’t the most basic criteria be that the literary work was written by a Filipino itself?
No matter the topic, nor the setting and everything else, once written by a Filipino, it then belongs to Philippine Literature.
I believe in the skill of our countrymen, including myself, in creating great literary pieces. Even the not-so-great should at least be considered in the Filipino genre. After all, everybody has to start off somewhere..=)

you writing in this blog makes it filipino literary. i have not read one single filipino literature a popular one for that matter. i think dont’ know enough about filipino writing or writers or authors. i was never exposed to.
i think anything written in a filipino nature is a debatable matter. if i’m american and writing about filipino this does not make it filipino literary piece. that makes it american. who is only writing about filipino matters. however, if a filipino is writing it then that makes is filipino. if a filipino writes articles for an american news paper, for example Washington Post, then the article IS a filipino. why because the author is filipino, the thoughts of that paper is “filipino thinking.” heck it might even have filipino accent! por riallls…
that’s my 2 cents
salamat po
